About

I’ve turned 30. It’s kind of freaking me out.

I’d like to believe that’s a large part of the reason for being quiet and soft-spoken, but friends and family keep reminding me (by getting frustrated and yelling at me) that it’s really just because I mumble all the time. The truth is, I’m not one to make noise, unless I’m singing to myself in the car or playing inebriated Rock Band with friends. I’m not one to make audible noise, anyway.

Visually, that’s a different story.

Whether it’s making clean/cluttered, corporate/chaotic graphics, drawing cartoon characters, or photographing motor sports and my overweight cat, I’m always making visual noise. I’ve been at it for over a decade, having always been that kid in class that just doodles and never takes notes. The professors at Wazzu finally gave me a BA in Fine Arts, maybe out of sympathy, to get rid of that quiet kid in the corner that never paid attention.

With that magical paper in hand, I’ve worked at newspapers, magazines, software and game companies such as Microsoft and Wizards of the Coast designing ads, layouts, websites and applications. Making all that visual noise, I needed some harmony along the way, so I picked up a camera, and found out that I loved that, too.

All this has brought me to the Pacific Northwest, the rain-infested home of Starbucks, where I snowboard in the winter and race my motorcycle in the summer. I have a cat that eats too much, and I have yakisoba nearly every day.

My name is JR Reyes. I may mumble, but I will definitely make you awesome.
